I’ve been at PCMag since 2011 and have covered the surveillance state, vaccination cards, ghost guns, voting, ISIS, art, fashion, film, design, gender bias, and more. 的re are so many signs that a date is going badly, and one of them is that the person across from you looks at their phone more than they do your face. SellCell wants to alert people to the signs they could be sending or receiving, so it conducted asurvey about cell phone use and dating(Opens in a new window).

的chance that your date will be checking out their phone more than you is about 50/50. Of those surveyed, 50.4% said they forgo looking at their phone on a date night. That does leave 49.6% who find that their attention is drawn toward their phone. The majority of these daters (75.2%) said they try to keep their screen time to under 30 minutes.

Secrecy is not a good thing in a relationship, so maybe we shouldn’t shun the 35.7% who said they would not hide their phone use on a date. We will side-eye the 6.4% who think they’re getting away with something by using their phone under the table. And let’s not even speak of the 7.6% who use the cover story of having to go to the bathroom as an excuse to check their phone.

Emergencies do crop up, so sometimes phone use is necessary even on a date. But the 3.8% of people who scrollTinderfor better options during their date and the same percentage who message other prospects should be banned from both phones anddating.

I strive to explain topics that you might come across in the news but not fully understand, such as NFTs and meme stocks. I’ve had the pleasure of talking tech with Jeff Goldblum, Ang Lee, and other celebrities who have brought a different perspective to it. I put great care into writing gift guides and am always touched by the notes I get from people who’ve used them to choose presents that have been well-received. Though I love that I get to write about the tech industry every day, it’s touched by gender, racial, and socioeconomic inequality and I try to bring these topics to light.

Outside of PCMag, I writefiction, poetry, humor, and essays on culture.
