Anatomy of an Android Gamer

As you might expect, Android gamers differ in the kinds of games they like to play based on where they live.

Best Android Games

You game. I game. We all game. And if we're Android gamers, then we play games on our devices for an average of 37 minutes a day, according to data from mobile analytics and advertising firmFlurry(Opens in a new window).

That's a global figure, however. If you're a resident of the U.S. and play games on your Android device, you spend an average of about an hour engaged in your digital pursuit (51.8 minutes, specifically). If you live in China, you likely spend an average of 28.6 minutes tapping away—the last country in Flurry's top 10 list.

What's even more interesting is the breakdown of game types by country. As you might expect, different areas tend to fixate on different types of games. South Korean Android gamers, for example, almost overwhelmingly prefer to play arcade and action games (74 percent) and don't appear to be as keen on brain and puzzle games (4 percent) or cards and casino games (3 percent).

Americans, in contrast, are a bit more evenly split. One-third play arcade and action games, one-third play casual games, and one-third play either brain and puzzle games or cards and casino games (a mere 3 percent appear to have any interest in sports games).

"Arcade & Action and Casual games command the largest share of all gaming sessions in most countries -- Germany, Italy, and South Korea are outliers," Flurry said. "In comparison, Sports games and Cards & Casino games generate relatively fewer sessions across the board. It appears that everyone likes a word game, but not everyone wants to play poker."

Flurry also broke down gaming categories by what it calls a "monthly session frequency," or the average number of times an Android user opened various games each month. In Germany, for example, Android users opened up brain and puzzle games an average of 66 times per month—154 percent higher than the worldwide average. Brazil, as you might expect, had a big interest in sports games—an average of 27 monthly opens, or 69 percent higher than the worldwide average.

In general, Flurry noted, arcade and action games tend to appeal to the most Android gamers; sports games, the fewest—though certain regional audiences have a much higher interest than others.

“事实证明,当我们都说并出口age of gaming, distinct dialects exist. It's no surprise that international blockbusters like Angry Birds, Hay Day, or Game of War fall into the most played categories. With the global gaming market expected to reach $24B by 2017, there's plenty of room for both international standard-bearers and local delicacies alike," Flurry said.
